The project theme targets the production of weft knitted fabrics characterised by open shapes, made of different types of yarns. The fabrics are intended for garments, as well as technical applications. The 3d positioning is generated by the stress state within the fabric, generated by the stitch geometry and also by the yarn charac-teristics. The theoretical part of the theme includes the elaboration of models for stitch length calculus based on new hypothesis and mechanical models for different stitch types. Such models emphasise the influence of different factors on the stress state in the knitted fabric. The solutions proposed for solving the project theme define a new, fesable idea that leads to the improvement of specific fabric properties. The research methodology is specific to engineering sciences, mainly textile engineering : analysis, description – fundamentation, analitical calculus – design, testing, production of knitted fabrics, processing and interpretation, according t the project objectives. The researchers with experience included in the research team contribute to the formation of young researchers, that are 100% implicated in the project. The research infrastructure is covered mainly by equipments and facilities existing in the laboratory / department / faculty of textile and leather iasi. The reasearch results will be valorised through scientific papers, participations to national and international symposium, conferences and a patent request. Because ideas generate ideas, the result disemination plan includes a serie of measures ment to contribute to the development of international co-operation relations and to increase the competitiveness and high visibility of the romanian textile research.
